While the microfinance intervention made by Jagaran definitely helped in the enhancement of the income of our poor borrowers, this income would often flow out to meet the emergency health expenses of the family. We realised that this income leakage had to be taken care of by awareness & knowledge and a number of health camps were organised.

Jagaran in collaboration with Susrat Eye Foundation organised free eye screening camp for low-income community people of the districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Midnapore, Murshidabad and Kolkata. Specialists rendered their services and provided medicines and other medical relief to 3497 patients. Among them, 492 patients were selected for eye surgery. About 374 cataract patients were operated. More than 3497 villagers were covered under-eye check-up camps in different districts during the last 5 years. After Cataract surgery, Spectacles were distributed. So far 46 eye check-up as well as operation camps were organised at Berachampa, Rajarhat, Katiahat and Baranagar of North and Basanti, Namkhana, Champahati and Karanjali of South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Midnapore and Kolkata.
