In rural and urban West Bengal it has been observed that a considerable number of children belonging to poor families have been deprived of the rights and opportunity of getting primary education. Sources reveal that on one hand, the government is trying to reduce illiteracy by making children literate, but on the other hand, a great number of children are remaining illiterate for various reasons in spite of the implementation of the Right to Education Act 2009. As a result literacy rate could not be achieved as per our expectations. The children within this age group 6+ should be brought within the orbit of Primary Education otherwise this group will become part of the illiterate generation in the future. Pre-primary education has become a popular strategy to prevent drop out from formal education and bring them to the mainstream of education system, thereby aiming to ensure that all poor children in a community receive free education. Under the program, schools are set up in villages with community participation. For this, we have made various efforts already and plan to continue our efforts in the future as per the program below for Pre-Primary schools.
